About the Course

DPSI – (Diploma in Public Service Interpreting) is a nationally recognised qualification for professionals who work in the interpreting or translating industry. It will provide the learner with a consistent standard for professionalism through interpretation skills. The course will allow the learner to develop skills and knowledge in how to interpret between public sector clients and users of services such as the law and NHS. The interpreter will act as a link between two users who do not share a common language.

The course provides both theory and contextualised practice of interpreting skills, in one of three main options:

  1. Law
  2. Health
  3. Local Government

The course will have sector specific staff available at all times and will play a prominent part in the development and delivery of all course modules and assessments. All tutors are qualified interpreters and will be able to provide regular 1 to 1 tuition for all participants of the course.

Throughout the duration of the course there will be opportunities to develop skills in consecutive and simultaneous interpreting, sight translation, written translation, note-taking skills.

Completion of the course will allow the learner to join the NRPSI the national register for interpreting professionals.
